Hi! My name is Deborah Maufer. Welcome to Pix & Pieces. I was born and raised on the East Coast, but I feel like a California girl after roughly 15 years of living in the SF Bay Area. One of the reasons I love photography is that it dovetails nicely with my other passion, which is exploring (in detail) places I haven’t been before.
My journey as a photographer began with a Kodak Brownie camera. I enjoyed photography on and off as a hobby over the years…until I decided to make it a regular practice. So far, I’ve been working on developing my eye and sharpening my point of view. In the future, I want to learn more about the technical side of photography.
I’m a very detail-oriented person. My favorite feature of the camera is the zoom, and it’s integral to what I do. I love that I can use my camera and zoom to direct the viewer’s eye to exactly what I want them to see.
Juxtapositions and interstices; color and texture; shadows and reflections; close-up details — these are the things that excite me. I have always expected the world to amaze, amuse and inspire me…and I am seldom disappointed.
I believe that everyone needs a creative outlet, and that’s what these linked blogs are for me. (mouse over text to see links)
- Here on the Pix side of my blog I post a photo a day (most days). If you like what you see, you can sign up for an RSS feed or a daily email.
- What you will find on the Pieces side of this blog is a random collection of thoughts, articles, videos, etc. that interest and/or amuse me.
- You will also find some creativity of the mash-up variety on the squirrelizer page!
- My Home Page is where you can keep up with the latest news on my creative endeavors.
- And last but not least is my Pix & Pieces SmugMug site, where you can see all of the pix that I have posted here in a gallery format.
I hope I can bring a smile to your face or help you see the world in a slightly different way. Let me know what you think!

After reading this, I wanted to say how glad I am that you decided to share your creativity with everyone and save it for posterity.
When I used to email a lot my friends would say (as to my daily happenings), “You should write a book”. Now I don’t have that kind of creativity except on an occasional musing, but I do wish I had kept all of those emails that made people laugh.
Keep those juices flowing
Aunt Patt
Thanks!
Dear Deb,
I’ve always known you had a special creative personality and am so glad you are using your photography ability to show that. Keep up the good work. I enjoy all of your pictures. Hope all is well with you and Tom. Love, Mom M.
